Should I stay or should I go?

Love It Like it Leave It

When the novelty of the new job is finally worn off and reality sets in and things get hard and you’re not sure if you should stay in this job or when the novelty of the new job has finally worn off and reality sets in and things get hard and you’re not sure if you should stay in this job or get a different one job. Those times when you write really long sentences because your mind is a stream of consciousness because of all the stress in the work environment. It’s in times like these when you need to take a retreat, maybe a day, maybe two, to think pray and ask God for insight about your job. There’s a process that may help…

(Pray this song as a metaphor between you and God - https://youtu.be/QirsBCrXNI0 but know that some of it may not be appropriate) Then...

Pray about whether God wants you to stay in the role or whether he wants to use you to change the role.

Prayerfully make three lists on three pieces of paper.

Brainstorm

“what do I LOVE about my job

what do I LIKE about my job

what would I LEAVE?”

LOVE it list

LIKE it list

LEAVE it list

Take everything on the LEAVE it list and use it to create a job description then hire someone (or recruit a volunteer) to do everything on the LEAVE it list. (Pray that you find someone who loves the stuff on your leave it list.)

Decide what on the LIKE it list you want to keep doing. Delegate anything questionable.

Of course, enjoy doing what you love on the LOVE it list.

If you want to blend any of it up in your own job description, try to keep 60 percent of your job description with LOVE it items. 20-30 percent LIKE it items. 10-20 percent LEAVE it items.

Need more perspective? Invite a trusted couple of coworkers, friends, or family members to brainstorm what what they think you Love and what they think you Like and what they think you want to Leave. It opens up a whole new perspective.

Through it all and at the end of this process, thank God.
